National Archives

Miskolc is the fourth largest town in Hungary, situated in the north-east part of the country. It is also the seat of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County and the regional centre of the Northern Hungary Region.

The new Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Institute of the Hungarian National Archives building is located on the University of Miskolc campus. It was built in the style of the American university campus model, and is surrounded by a large park and sports facilities. As part of the project, the Miskolc University Library, Archives and Museum buildings were also completely renovated. The investment represents a unique institutional cooperation between a university and a public entity. The new architectural landmark is more than just a repository for historical documents, it embodies a fusion of modernity and tradition, safeguarding Hungary's cultural legacy while embracing the future of archival practices.

The new Archives building includes a research room, a restoration workshop, a filing room, a modern warehouse capable of storing 20,000 linear meters of documents, 750 square meters of community space and a hall space suitable for cultural events and conferences.

During the implementation of the Archives project, the heavy use of environmentally friendly solutions, efficient energy use, emission reduction and water conservation were key considerations. Hungary's most modern archives building was opened in May 2024, offering an amazing experience to visitors.

The extraordinary ventilated facade solution was designed and implemented to improve energy efficiency and ensure a pleasant, healthy indoor climate all year round. All walls are cladded in white Swisspearl Patina Original and Patina Inline boards, which are made of maintenance-free fiber cement. The authentic surface and structure of these boards provide a unique and modern look for the exterior of the building. Fiber cement is a natural material made from cement, water, minerals and fibers. It is changing building trends around the world thanks to its durability and expressive appearance. Danucem supplied CEM II/A-LL 42.5 R type white cement for the production of the approximately used 6’000m2 fiber cement boards.
